Craft fairs are back! That's right after many years I am back out on the craft fair circuit selling my wares. I've bought myself a lovely new red gazebo, some personalised bunting and lots of cool accessories to make my stall as enticing as possible. I think you'll agree it looks pretty good! My first craft fair of the year was Wrexham's Artisan Market on 30th March. It was a really good day - the sun shone, it was actually warm and best of all it was busy all day! I must commend the organisers for putting on a really good event and also thank everyone who bought something from my stall (especially all of my very supportive family who are my best customers!). |
Last week I decided to say a fond farewell to one of my original craft fair display pieces - my wooden badge board. It has served me well over the last couple of years but after countless badge tumbles and one gust of wind too many it was time to call it a day. However I am not one to waste perfectly good brown material and so I simply re-fashioned it into something else. |
The new and improved badge board!
Here it is now. With half a Ferrero Roche box and some strips of cardboard box I hot-glued myself a brand new display unit! It debuted at the Malpas Summer fair on Saturday and I'm pleased to report that not once was a badge knocked on the floor by my elbows, and the wind couldn't even make it shake let alone blow it clean off the table! Win! |
Some of the groups in the parade included the local cheerleaders who followed the local firemen and their elephant mascot. A samba band provided the music, and also gave a few performances throughout the day. There was lots of entertainment provided throughout the day, including this well balanced fella. | The fair officially got kicking when the parade arrived on the scene. It looked as though nearly the whole village took part! The theme of the fair was Mardi Gras so there were lots of people dressed up in colourful carnival outfits. Even a couple of giants stopped by! The Malpas flower club got into the carnival spirit! The arena was host to lots of competitions including the pony fancy dress competition! The Vale Royal Falconry display team also provided some bird themed fun throughout the day. I just about managed to snap one mid-flight! |
The Malpas Village Parade!
One addition to the fair which made me smile was the Thomas the Tank Engine style land train which made continuous loops around the fair all day. I find it's very hard not to enjoy yourself when Thomas is around! So that was The Plassey Craft and Country Fair 2015. I must say that every time I do a craft fair my fellow stall holders are always great and very helpful, but at this one they surpassed themselves, and I am extremely greatful for all the help I received in keeping my stall and my craft earthbound. Thank you! |
The fair was at The Boathouse in Chirk. It was clear from the empty tables dotted here and there that a couple of stall holders hadn't turned up, but the ones that were there made a good showing. There was a stall next to mine selling freshly popped pop corn from a pop corn cart making the room smell lovely! | Well this evening was my last Christmas fair of the year, and although it wasn't quite as successful as the others I've been to it was still a good event. Later on in the evening there was music provided by a singer who is usually an Elvis impersonator but tonight was just singing as himself, albeit in a very Elvis-y voice. He certainly added to the festivities anyway! So that's me done for the year as far as craft fairs go, and I almost managed to sell out of all my Christmas stock. Not a bad season I'd say! |
Cefn-y-bedd Christmas Market
The first one was Thursday evening in Cefn-y-bedd outside Discount Mayhem. There was an inflatable Santa's Grotto, mulled wine and real ale, a mini fun fair and two groups of carol singers. I was able to bring electric spotlights with me to this event so I was very well lit up, although there was a black out for about ten minutes when the generator gave up! I did take battery powered back ups with me so I ws still a little lit up even then. |
Penley Rainbow Centre Christmas Fair
My second fair was today at the Penley Rainbow Centre. It was a much bigger event than I had envisioned and it proved very popular. There were also carols here sung by the Maelor Adult Choir. Santa and his elves also made an appearance despite being very busy this time of year. I sold out of a lot of craft items at this fair, so my table may look a tad empty at my final fair next Sunday. It's better to sell out than have loads left though! |
Yesterday was my first Christmas craft fair of this year. It was part of the Holywell Christmas light switch on, and inspite of the cold, damp weather it was a wonderful night! The day started at 10:00 and was a bit slow to get going at first. This prompted a couple of stall holders to pack up early, however had they stuck it out they would have found the rest of the day to be a big success. |
I debuted my new pallet display unit, which definitely helped me dislplay my stock in a more visually interesting way. I also used my new table for the first time which saved me from a mini will-itfall-over panic whenever anyone knocked it or there was a small gust of wind. |
A lot of the children mistook my red gazebo for Santa's grotto! | The official light switch was at 5:00 but I had my own little one at around 4:00. A little assistance from a street light would have been very welcome, but my little camping lanterns didn't do too bad a job of lighting up my stuff. My new fairy lights looked very pretty in the dark. |
It was the grand opening of the new castle play area (of which I am extremely jealous and plan on replicating as soon as I can afford to). The opening was officiated by a flurry of balloons released into the sky by the children from the local Eyton school, closely followed by a child stampede as they rushed across the drawbridge into the castle. This craft fair was the debut of my lovely new display stand made for me by my wonderful boyfriend Stu out of an old pallet. Isn't he clever! |
At least it was refreshing!
My first craft fair of 2014 was a lovely one; the weather was gorgeous, the footfall was bountiful and my fellow stallholders and I had a wonderful time swapping stories of craft fairs gone by. | The day started off a bit shambolic. It took four of us to erect my 'easy gazebo' ('wheezy gazebo' seems more appropriate these days - I think its best days are behind it poor thing) and then my customary 'come-and-visit-me-at-such-and-such' photo wouldn't upload to Facebook due to the lack of any sort of signal (I've featured it however above because I quite like it). After that though it was a lovely day! Weird highlight of the day The AMAZING wooden castle/fort park that is being built at the Plassey right now, and which I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of! It's got a drawbridge and everything! Children get the best things. |
